Tony Hayes
Tony Joseph Hayes, 73, of Georgetown, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2024, following complications from a long term illness.
He was born in Hi-Hat, Aug. 12, 1951, the son of the late Claude and Opal Hayes.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his daughters, Rachel Hayes, Laura Hayes Jones, and
Sara Hayes; and his granddaughter, Reagan Shelton; his siblings, Glenn
Hayes, Claudette Hall, Delores Hayes Tackett, Roger Hayes, and Morris Hayes.
Tony dedicated his life to ministry, serving as a minister for 40 years and as a pastor for 37 years
in the Church of God, the Christian Church, and the Church of the Nazarene. He earned a
Master’s degree in Church History and Christian Thought from Trinity Evangelical University in
Elgin, Illinois.
Tony’s commitment to education was evident throughout his career. He began as the Principal of
Lawndale Christian School and went on to become an instructor in the Religion Department at
Indiana Wesleyan University. Additionally, he served as a professor of Ethics at Good Samaritan
College of Nursing and Health Science in Cincinnati, Ohio. Tony also played a significant role in
higher education administration for 23 years, including serving as the School Director at
Southern Ohio College, Academic Dean at Beckfield College, Director of TAP at Thomas More
College, and Director of the U.S. Department of Education EOC Trio Program at the University
of Cincinnati.
Tony Joseph Hayes will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his dedication to education,
and his profound impact on the lives of those he served.
His life will be celebrated at the Georgetown Church of the Nazarene, 726 Lemons Mill Rd.,
Georgetown, at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Georgetown Church of the Nazarene.

Thomas Hopkins
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas Kevin Hopkins, who left us Aug. 23, 2024, at the age of 46.
He was a beloved fiance, parent, papaw, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Kevin was born in Pikeville, Aug. 8, 1978, to the late Thomas and Alpha Bentley Hopkins. He lived on Marrowbone Creek Road with his fiance, Denise Blackburn, and their beloved pets, Wendy, Rosie, Alf, and Garfield.
For many years, Kevin worked for Belcher Mobile Home Movers before starting a 15-year career in oil drilling at Highlands Drilling. He loved piddling outside, working on his home, and fixing anything that needed it. In his spare time, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
In addition to his fiance, Kevin is survived by his daughter, Katlyn Hopkins, of Kimper; his sisters, Jessica Hopkins Tackett (Joey), Ann Hopkins, of Elkhorn City, and Melissa Adkins, of Georgetown; his brother, Calvin Bentley (Courtney), of Frankfort; his grandchildren Ellie and Jersey; his nieces, Hannah Sanders, Jessalan Perry, and Payton Tackett Newcomb (Sam); and his soon-to-be stepfamily, Kyle Taylor (Mykenzi), Keyla Taylor (Michael), Kane Taylor (Madi), Kenleigh Taylor, PK Thacker, Pyper Thacker, and Blakely Potter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joannie Bentley Bartley.
We find comfort in the belief that Kevin is now at peace. He may no longer walk among us, but his spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
Rest in peace, dear Kevin. Your memory will be cherished, and your love will never be forgotten.

“Poppy” Rife
Phillip Mitchell “Poppy” Rife, 74, of Mills Branch, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born July 24, 1950, to the late Lawrence and Gladys Virginia Lyons Rife.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie Rife and Allen Rife.
He was an ordained minister with Glory Bound Freewill Baptist Church and a retired mine foreman.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia “Nano” Rife; three daughters, Tammy Rowe (Bruce), of Ashcamp, Yvonne Adkins (Chris), of Rockhouse, and Angel Rife (Trent Thomas), of Ashcamp; one sister, Bonnie Hackney (Ronald), of Jefferson City, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Nancy Rife, of Greenville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Kea Robinette (Josh), Hunter Adkins, Tanner Rowe, Andrew Hylton (Shelby) and Leanna Hylton; two great-grandchildren, Solomon Robinette and Josie Robinette; and special nieces and a nephew, Preston Moore, Whitney Moore and Bethany Moore.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at the Glory Bound Freewill Baptist Church with Freewill Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial followed at Moore-Thompson Cemetery, Mills Branch.

“Hair” Tackett
Keith “Hair” Tackett, 71, was given his angel wings Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, at UK Hospital in Lexington, while surrounded by his family.
He was born in Jenkins, June 7, 1953, the youngest son of the late Truman and June B. Tackett.
He lived almost all of his life on Lick Fork.
Keith was a gifted mechanic, able to fix anything. He enjoyed tinkering, country and gospel music, motorcycles, history and taking his dog for rides in his old truck. Keith had a great faith in God and loved to listen to preaching on the radio. He loved seeing things growing in his garden where he said he felt close to dad. Keith was his mother’s pride and joy, and we all knew he was her favorite. People that knew Keith knew he had the gift of gab. He loved talking and laughing with anyone who would listen to his stories. He loved his family, old people and delighted in talking to little kids.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved brothers, Phillip “Tight Wad” and Dudley; his greatly loved brother-in-law, Willie Gibson; sister-in-law, Linda Tackett; and one nephew, Nathan Curtis Gibson.
He is survived by his sister, Linda Gibson, who was like a mother to him; his brother, David, who Keith loved to argue with; his sister, Marcia T. Forker, who loved him to the “moon and back”; his sister, Retta Gail Potter (Arnold Ray); his nephews, John David Tackett and Kevin Ray Potter; his favorite niece, Tammy Branham; and his other favorite nieces, Patty Seutter, Kim Fannin, Crystal Kirk and Jenna Forker, who loved uncle Keith to “Pittsburgh and back.”
He will be greatly missed by his motorcycle buddy, Kevin Forker; his special friends, Tim Tackett (who was like a brother), Chuck Simpson and Renee Tackett; and his sister-in-law, Kathleen Tackett.
Funeral services were held at 11a.m., Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home chapel with Freewill Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial followed at Tackett Cemetery in Dorton.
