Five graded-stakes winners including undefeatedIscreamuscream are among the eight 3-year-old fillies entered for Saturday’sGrade 1, $300,000 Del Mar Oaks covering 1 1/8 miles on the Southern California turf.
Morning-line favorite Iscreamuscream (8-5) is 3-for-3 for trainer Phil D’Amato, who hasthree entrants in the race. In her stakes debut she won last out as the 6-5favorite in the San Clemente Handicap (G2), the one-mile, opening-day featureJuly 20 at Del Mar. The $330,000 Twirling Candy filly is owned by Agave RacingStable, Little Red Feather Racing, John Hundley, Marsha Naify and John andStacey Snyder. Héctor Berrios will ride Iscreamuscream again, this time frompost 1.

Her Ireland-bred stablemate Circle of Trust (6-1) is coming backfrom a 1 1/4-length win June 1 in the Honeymoon (G3). This year the daughter ofUnion Rags owned by James Downey is 4: 2-0-1, all at 1 1/8 miles on the SantaAnita turf. Starting from post 2, Reylu Gutiérrez will become the seventhdifferent jockey in Circle of Trust’s eight races.
Also trained by D’Amato, Zona Verde (8-1) closed late in the SanClemente to finish second, three-quarters of a length behind Iscreamuscream. Winlessin five starts since the Jimmy Durante (G3) in December, the Calyx filly hasfinished second in three minor stakes this year. Owned by Benowitz family trust,CYBT, McLean Racing Stables and Michael Nentwig, Zona Verde will break frompost 4 with her regular jockey Juan Hernández.
Whiskey Decision (5-2), the second choice on the morning line, brings a three-race winning streak into theDel Mar Oaks. Bred and owned by Fred Hertrich and John Fielding and trained byArnaud Delacour, the daughter of Into Mischief won the 1 1/8-mile, $150,000Christiana black-type stakes going 1 1/8 miles July 8 at Delaware Park. Herturf debut in a 1 1/16-mile, first-level allowance race May 10 at ChurchillDowns resulted in a 5 1/2-length victory. That was good for an 87 Beyer SpeedFigure, according to Daily Racing Form. She broke her maiden March 23 onthe Tapeta course at Turfway Park. Umberto Rispoli, who won the Del Mar Oakslast year with Anisette, will be paired for the first time with WhiskeyDecision and go from post 3.
Buchu (12-1), Rigney Racing’s homebred Justify filly, won last fall’sJessamine (G2) and this spring’s Appalachian (G2), both at Keeneland. She is 6:3-1-1 in her native Kentucky but 4: 0-0-1 elsewhere. Trained by Phil Bauer, shefinished sixth in her two Grade 1 starts, including the Breeders’ Cup JuvenileFillies Turf last fall at Santa Anita and the Belmont Oaks Invitational lastmonth at Aqueduct. Martín García will ride from post 5.
Medoro (5-1) finished third, Sakura Blossom (20-1) fourth and Sea Dancer (20-1) eighthin the San Clemente, and they drew the three outside posts for the Del MarOaks. Medoro’s four-race winning streak to start her career was snapped by hertroubled trip in the San Clemente. Sakura Blossom was a stakes winner at TurfParadise who gets blinkers for the first time. Sea Dancer is an allowancevictor who has finished no better than fifth in four stakes assignments.
The Del Mar Oaks is the eighth of 10 races on the Saturdaycard. It is scheduled to start at p.m. EDT.
