"We'll see how he's feeling by the end of the day," Head Coach Nick Sirianni said on Friday, when the first question at his press conference was about the status of wide receiver DeVonta Smith. "We got a little bit more time to figure it out."
Unfortunately, things did not turn in the Eagles' favor.
The Eagles announced on Friday that Smith will miss Sunday's game against the Rams with a hamstring injury. He did not practice all week.
Smith leads the Eagles with 41 receptions and four receiving touchdowns this season. He previously missed the Week 4 game in Tampa Bay due to a concussion.
Smith's absence means there could be extended roles for Jahan Dotson and rookie Johnny Wilson.
"Both of them have made big plays in the past couple of weeks," Sirianni said. "These guys come to work hard every single day. They put it on the line every single day. They've had good practices throughout the week. We're excited about their possibilities if they need to go. And then we've had some good experiences with guys this year that have stepped in and contributed and that's the awesome part of a team."
Wide receiver Britain Covey is eligible to come off Injured Reserve as well. The Eagles opened Covey's practice window this week and Covey practiced fully all week. The Eagles did list him as questionable.
UPDATE: The Eagles activated Britain Covey from Injured Reserve on Saturday and removed his game status designation. He is good to go for Sunday night.
"He's done a nice job. We'll see where he is by the end of the day. We don't have to make any decisions quite yet, but he's done a nice job. Nice to get him back out there. Can't stress enough how good of a teammate Britain Covey is. Guys like being around him, so it's nice having him back out there in the mix and interacting with his teammates on the practice field."
There is an open spot on the active roster after the Eagles placed defensive end Bryce Huff on Injured Reserve if the team chooses to activate Covey.
Everyone else practiced fully and is good to go for Sunday's game.

Rams starting RT Rob Havenstein doubtful for Sunday night
A bit of a surprise after the Rams expressed optimism earlier in the week, but Los Angeles' starting right tackle Rob Havenstein is likely to miss a third straight game with an ankle injury after being listed by the team as doubtful for Sunday night.
"He just hasn't made the progress that ... He looks good, but is he quite ready to be the Rob that we're all accustomed to seeing?" Rams Head Coach Sean McVay told reporters, according to the Rams' official website after Friday's practice.
If Havenstein is indeed out, Joe Noteboom is back in place to start at right tackle after missing the Week 11 win over the Patriots with an ankle injury.

The Eagles held practice indoors on Thursday and wide receiver DeVonta Smith did not participate once again due to a hamstring injury.
This is the third week that Smith has been on the injury report with a hamstring injury. Smith leads the Eagles in targets (56), receptions (41) and receiving touchdowns (4) this season.
Since the bye week, the Eagles have averaged 8.5 yards per pass attempt, which ranks third in the NFL over that span. Meanwhile, the Rams have allowed the third-highest rate of yards per pass attempt (7.5) this season. Los Angeles is surrendering 14.7 yards per reception to wide receivers this year, the second-highest average in the league.
Wide receiver and punt returner Britain Covey has been a full participant since his practice window opened this week. Covey was placed on Injured Reserve after suffering a shoulder injury in the win over the Saints.
"The training staff here is awesome. I really trust them, which is nice to have. I feel like they genuinely care about you," Covey said. "It's a weird bone to break, the scapula. In their years of experience, they've only seen a couple of them. Just a strange bone to break. I might have to run out of bounds a couple more times. I probably shouldn't try to run people over. I'm just happy to be back. I've worked hard and progressed nicely. It feels good to open the practice window, being out there, competing. I got to block BG for a play."
How did that go?
"Not good," Covey said, laughing. "It was fun. I missed the competition."
Covey said he does not know if he will be activated for Sunday night's game.
Smith and defensive end Bryce Huff were the only players to miss practice on Thursday. Huff was scheduled to undergo a procedure on his wrist that will sideline him for a period of time. Rookie Jalyx Hunt returned to practice on Thursday as a limited participant with an ankle injury.
"We all have to pick it up as a group," Hunt said. "I think I've gotten the same amount of reps, just working in and just making sure everything is ready to go when my number's called."
Defensive tackle Milton Williams was also limited with a foot injury on Thursday.
In addition to Covey, linebacker Nakobe Dean (groin) and quarterback Jalen Hurts (ankle) were full participants.

Rams starting RT Rob Havenstein on track to return
Rams starting right tackle Rob Havenstein has missed the past two games with an ankle injury, but returned to practice in a limited capacity on Thursday.
On Monday, Head Coach Sean McVay said that Havenstein was "trending in the right direction" to play against the Eagles.
Joe Noteboom started for Havenstein in Week 10, but he also suffered an ankle injury and Warren McClendon was called into action last Sunday in Los Angeles' win over the Patriots.
Noteboom was limited on Wednesday, but a full participant on Thursday.
Starting right guard Kevin Dotson was added to the injury report on Thursday after missing practice due to an illness.
Reserve nose tackle Neville Gallimore practiced as a full participant on Thursday as he is recovering from a neck injury that has kept him out of action since Week 8.

Head Coach Nick Sirianni announced at his Wednesday press conference that defensive end Bryce Huff will undergo a procedure on his wrist.
Huff played through the injury with a hard cast for the past two weeks. Sirianni said that it remains to be seen whether Huff will go on Injured Reserve.
"He's really done a good job of batting through, but this will hopefully help him get some more function in that hand," Sirianni said.
Sirianni praised the depth of the rotation at the edge rusher position to absorb the snaps in Huff's absence.
"We feel good about the depth that we have here and some of the young guys. Nolan's (Smith) done a really good job and Jalyx (Hunt), we'll see where he is as we continue on here. Jalyx keeps getting better as a football player," Sirianni said. "(Josh) Sweat's had some really good games and been playing at a top-notch level. BG (Brandon Graham) is continuing to be steady throughout like he has his entire career."
Signed by the Eagles in free agency, Huff has played 37 percent of the snaps in his first season with the team. Sweat leads the way with 62 percent of the snaps played, followed by Graham in his 15th season with 46 percent. Smith, in his second NFL season, has been on the field for 42 percent of the defensive snaps. Hunt, the team's third-round pick, played a career-high 25 snaps in the win over Dallas, but has just 42 defensive snaps to date.
"We drafted Jalyx because we liked his skill set. Jalyx has been doing a lot of good things on special teams. We'll see how those reps get divvied up. This week will tell a lot in practice," Sirianni said.
Smith has come on strong since the bye week. He's started four games and registered 3.5 sacks.
"Man, what a guy that's been able to handle the ups and downs, not getting a lot of reps early on in his career because of the depth we had at that position to now really being a big-time contributor," Sirianni said. "Patience, patience of everybody, hey, it takes time. It takes time if you got the right people, like Nolan is. Nolan deeply cares about being good at football. Nolan loves football. Nolan is as tough as we got. He's one of the toughest guys on this football team. He plays as hard as anybody in the National Football League and he's got great skill.
"When you have those characteristics as a person, God-willing, you'll reach your ceiling. He just keeps getting better because of the skill that he has and who he is as a person. We want things to happen right away at all times. I'm guilty of that. We all are. Development and getting better every day is a process and it takes time. What you've seen is just him putting his head down, working every day, regardless of what the circumstances are and you've seen him get better and now he's contributing big-time to our success."
Post-Practice Update: Jalyx Hunt also misses practice
With Bryce Huff out for the foreseeable future after his wrist procedure, one of the players who could pick up the slack in his absence – rookie outside linebacker Jalyx Hunt – is also on the mend as he missed Wednesday's practice with an ankle injury.
Wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who has been battling a hamstring injury, missed Wednesday's practice. In each of the previous two weeks, Smith missed the first practice of the week and increased his participation as the game inched closer.
Defensive tackle Milton Williams was also sidelined on Wednesday with a foot injury.
Two key starters – linebacker Nakobe Dean (groin) and quarterback Jalen Hurts (ankle) – were limited.
In his first practice since Week 3, wide receiver Britain Covey, who had his 21-day practice window opened on Wednesday, was a full participant. Covey is eligible to come off Injured Reserve from his shoulder injury. The Eagles would need to make a corresponding roster move in order to activate Covey.
